Membership
is accepted on a corporate basis and depends mainly on the applicant
having a registered business in Hong Kong, connected with shipping.
There are two categories of membership. Ordinary membership for shipowners
and shipmanagers, and Associate membership for all others.
Both
categories of membership are eligible to attend all Association
functions and receive all Association notices and material except for
those in which it is judged the Associate members will not be
interested, although they are welcome to have them upon request.
Associate
members are not entitled to vote on resolutions at general meetings -
for example, on the election of the Chairman they are invited to
express their opinions but not to vote.
Every
applicant must be sponsored by two members, of which one must be an
Ordinary member i.e. a shipowner. The Secretariat is glad to assist
applicants in completing their sponsorship arrangements.
On
acceptance for membership there is an initial Entrance Fee of HK$1,000.
Monthly subscriptions for Ordinary members are HK$4,800 and Associate
members HK$2,100. These fees were last revised on 1st January 1997 for
Associate Members and 1st April 2005 for Ordinary Members.
